Myth or Miracle Cleaner Series: Shower Head De-Clogger

Homemade Shower De-Clogger Myth or Miracle Cleaner | Tried & Twisted

Little problems are sometimes the most annoying. Noisy neighbors, a spot of mold growing underneath what was a perfectly good head of lettuce, clogged shower heads

Keeping it in perspective, most little problems come with an easy fix. While a clogged shower head certainly isn't a dire problem, there's no reason not to remove the little annoyance of errant water streams sputtering into my face interrupting a relaxing shower when the fix is so easy.

For this next post in the Myth or Miracle Cleaner Series, where I give homemade cleaners a try to find out if they are too good to be true, I'll tackle my sputtering, clogged shower head with a soaking method suggested by Frugally Sustainable. Let's give it a try!

Shower De-Clogger from Vinegar and Baking Soda | Tried & Twisted

Supplies:
1 cup vinegar
1/3 cup baking soda
1 plastic bag, quart-size
1 rubber band or twist tie

Step 1. Mix together baking soda and vinegar in a plastic bag. Pour slowly to avoid making the fizz overflow.

Step 2. Hang plastic bag over the shower head and fasten with a rubber band. Let sit for 2 - 3 hours.

Step 3. Remove plastic bag and the water will flow smoothly! Not all of the debris will evaporate, so you may need to wipe off the remaining dirt with a paper towel or cloth.

Shower Head Cleaner and De-Clogger | Tried & Twisted

Rating of Difficulty: 1 out of 5. This is easy peasy and can easily be done while you're off cleaning other parts of the house or re-reading the Harry Potter series. Only Harry's magic spells could find a way to make cleaning the house easier.

Cheap: Yes, rather than paying for a special product, you can use what you already have in your house. Vinegar and baking soda both can be bought cheap in bulk, so that won't stress the budget. Plus, you can use the left-overs for stir fry or baking a cake.

Green? Yes, this is a non-toxic cleaning method that doesn't create harsh side effects. If you're also looking for a cleaning method that doesn't hurt the environment in any way, then this method isn't perfect since baking soda chemical production or mining can both have a downside according to some specialists.

Verdict: Winner! It's a little problem, so it deserves a simple solution. This method works like a charm and will have your shower flowing straight again in no time.

The only thing that didn't work according to plan was that the baking soda didn't stay mixed with the vinegar and would settle in the bottom of the bag. To fix this, every half hour or hour, I squished the bag to mix and combine the ingredients again. No big deal. Just check on the bag in between chores or at the end of every chapter.

Coming up later today, the final post in the Myth or Miracle Cleaner series which was suggested by...you!
